What's in my Makeup bag? Base // Beauty

The first week of January 2015 is officially over . Frankly, I couldn't be happier to be out of the festive season and back into the swing of things! After multiple compliments on my makeup over the festive party period I felt it was time to share what I keep in my makeup bag. Starting with what I use for my base!

I decided to do this in categories as I do have quite a few bits, so keep your eyes peeled for the rest of my makeup bag's contents, which will be posted later this week. Also, small apology for the less than great images on this post, I've left my camera at a friends so had to be an iphone photographer this week...

To start,I am a self confessed over packer.  I am well aware of this, but it's just something I've always done.I bring far too much makeup everywhere I go and learned the hard way that it's a bad idea after having my bag stolen last year. So please be prepared for multiple items in each section, because I can never decide on one.

I always start my face by moisturising, I can get seriously dry skin so I always carry the Nivea Q10 Anti-Wrinkle Night Cream at night and before applying makeup. I feel like this is one of the few moisturisers that properly nourishes my skin, and I haven't found one that can top it.

I then apply a primer, I never leave the house without one on my face and I'm unsure how I applied makeup before using them! I switch between a few primers depending on the situation so here are the ones I carry frequently.

The first is Benefit Professional, an over hyped staple in the beauty world we have all heard about. I like the way this primer covers my pores and adds some kind of longevity to my makeup, but I feel it can be super drying and can give a horrid texture to my skin which I'm not a fan of. I tend to use this if I'm wearing very little makeup as i feel it can make my skin look cakey if paired with a good amount of product.

The second primer I carry is also Benefit and is the Stay Flawless 15 hour Primer. This primer comes in the form of a kind of push on roll up and I love it. It isn't for everyone as the consistency is definitely hard to work with and feels rather odd on the skin but when used correctly adds so much extra coverage and genuinely does keep your make-up put for a minimum of 15 hours. I tend to wear this more on nights out or very long days as I feel it's quite heavy for everyday wear!

The final primer I carry is a drug store cheapie, but a favourite! It is the Makeup Revolution - Ultra Face Base Primer.  It is only £5 for 25ml which is bigger than the Benefit Porefessional and a quarter of the price! I would have to stay I think I prefer this cheap one! It has an ultra smooth, mattifying consistency that is highly hydrating which is perfect for these cold winter days. It creates a blurred finish and keeps my makeup put all day long. What else could I ask for? I tend to use this primer on an everyday basis due to it's great longevity and it's tiny price tag!

I don't want to make this post any longer, so you're going to have to wait to find out what else sits tightly in my make up bag. Oh the suspense...

What base staples do you carry with you? Have you tried any of the above products? What do you think?

  1. I agree with you about the benefit porefessional! The hype is so huge but when I tried it I was a little disappointed. I will deffo be trying both the Make Up Revolution primer and the other Benefit primer. I can't live without them and love trying new ones, so thank you! :)
